Heat Wave Causes Rivers in China & Europe to Drought//China’s Drought-Hit Regions Now Face Heavy Rains, Flooding

Heat Wave Causes Rivers in China & Europe to Drought//China’s Drought-Hit Regions Now Face Heavy Rains, Flooding-China and Europe have been hit by drought due to extreme heat waves that have occurred in recent weeks. This drought makes some rivers and lakes shrink due to very hot temperatures.

China declared its first drought emergency this year. Due to the heat wave, which was followed by scorching temperatures, it dried up several river areas and triggered power grid disturbances.

Quoted from CNBC International, authorities issued the 'yellow alert' on Thursday (18/8/2022) evening local time after China's central and southern provinces experienced weeks of extreme heat, with temperatures in dozens of cities exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, or 104 degrees Fahrenheit.

Rainfall in the Yangtze River basin, for example, decreased by about 45% compared to the average in recent years, according to data from the local Ministry of Water Resources. A total of 66 rivers in 34 counties in the southwest region of Chongqing have also dried up.

Not only dry rivers, heat waves have also disrupted crop growth, threatened livestock and prompted some industries to close to save electricity for homes.
